The HPP Birsfelden is situated in a sensitive location, a few hundred meters upstream of a fuel depot including the loading station for oil tankers.

Thus, in order to qualify the staff a training simulator was implemented in cooperation with Rittmeyer AG (CH, Zug). The simulator is based on the numeric real time simulation with Virtual River. During a simulation the trainee uses exactly the same user-interface based on Rittmeyers RITOP as he uses for operations in reality.
